Why I wouldn't mind if the nexus 4 wasnt a huge hit to the public...

So can we hope, that if I can only buy a N4 in the evening of 13, there wont be a sign saying: SOLD OUT! I'm crossing my fingers.

Oh you have no idea. I tried convincing a girl to buy the Nexus 4, and geez that didn't go well. They are all about "Ohhh but I want a white phone! And the iPhone is sooo pretty", I mean c'mon that thing looks the same for over two years now.......

I swear never try convincing a girl to buy this. Waste of time.

Show her the sparkly back.....her knees will buckle...lol

What have you developed?

I'm new to the nexus line but I never quite understood the whole "its a techie/developer" thing. The reason I say that is because doesn't it take more of a "techie" to hack a regular non-nexus device? I mean, one of the big points with the nexus is that its easier and comes unlocked I thought. Also, as far as developers go, wouldn't they rather develop apps etc on phones that are on the biggest most advanced networks? Or is it the fact that they need pure Android to develop apps?

I believe it will sell well but not be a pop culture thing. E.g I dont see it with Samsungs besides the obvious statement cool phone, thanks thats all i ever see besides APple kids showing theirs off.

It isn't "techie" phone. Unfortunately, there are too many people promoting that type of myth.

Nobody as of yet has shown a single bit of Google documentation identifying the Nexus as being designed and intended solely for "developers".

To be honest the Apple Ecosystem has enough of a hold on families that its rooted in the mire of "well we already bought $200 of crap from itunes" For this fact alone weve seen people gritting their teeth when they tell us the really like Apple Maps and their ip5.

Simply because I don't want the general public buying this device solely because its a pop culture statement (ahem apple fanboys - maybe not all of them but a huge majority)... I kinda want googles nexus line to stay with us techies and developers... not ppl who buy stuff because it looks pretty and because everyone else has one...

I completely disagree with that statement. I want Google's Nexus brand to flourish and only done with mass appeal of the majority. This push the ides that all those who non nexus android device that device stems from work Google and the Nexus Project. Furthermore if the Nexus brand is popular device then so is Google's idea for Pure Android experience and all of Google's OEM partners will keep up to date with the latest software to compete. This would be beautiful thing because not only would the Nexus program pushed the OEMs to update there software but mass of followers buying Nexus devices.

I get a good feeling in public when I see all the grandmas, housewives and kids using Iphones and thinking to myself.... thank god I'm not using what they are...
Now for thoughs who are concerned about other people buying Nexus device because not deemed fit because they have "grandmas, housewives, or kids". You might need pay more attention and check out who Google is putting into their Nexus commercials which are the "grandmas, housewives, and kids".

What I hear from girls about the iPhone: "I want the iPhone because I can see emojis on instagram and twitter" lmao girls man. My gf being included

This is exactly what my daughter said to me the other day. I asked her if that was the only requirement she needed when picking a new phone. She said "No, I also need a bling case".

Lol. :banghead:

I tell EVERYBODY about the Nexus 4 and I'm always talking up Android when I get a chance.

I hope the Nexus 4 is a popular success. If it is, maybe this will mean more $350 QUALITY phones in the future.

I would honestly like the Nexus 4 to sell pretty well, if more people had this phone, the more issues could be brought to light and be resolved, not to mention bringing positive attention to the Android Community.

I absolutely oppose the thesis of the OP because it's no different than the snobbery music snobs show about how the don't want anyone in the unwashed heathen masses of the general public to like "their" uber-cool band. "R.E.M. used to be the coolest, but since 'The One I Love', I see normal people singing it to each other. Idiots! It's not a love song! You people are stupid Johnny-come-latelys! I was into R.E.M. with the original Hibtone 'Radio Free Europe' single. THEY'RE MINE!!!"

If you're going to hate popularity, shouldn't you be hating on the Galaxy S III since it's outselling the iPhone now? Are all of those people to dirty to count because they're all buying a particular phone or is it just the silly iHerds that offend you? Even that doesn't make sense because I'd rather see legions of Nexus users who are using it for all the good reasons we're interested in them than just because of the logo and status it implies. I'm sorry, but when you see people understanding the advantages of a pure Google phone that will always be up-to-date and not abandoned, has killer specs and a game-changing price point, that's a good thing which should be encouraged.

You shouldn't want to put your light under a bushel; you should want to shining out to the world as a beacon of what is truly good and not merely popular. I plan to be an evangelist for Nexus if it lives up to the hype. I'm not going to keep it in my pocket and if people see it out tell them it's not for them, only nerds, snobs and devs. I'm going to say, "It's the Nexus 4 and let me tell you why it's so cool...."

I hope this phone sells like crazy. I say this for a few reasons;

This will give Google more clout when it come to carriers in the US, We might see a future Nexus on all carriers and under Google's terms.
Manufacturers will see the popularity of pure android and my start changing/ditching there skins to match.
To keep in competition with the nexus we could see Faster updates and phones supported longer.
App Devs will update there apps faster and we will see more of them. (bigger market share=more money to be made)
Lower prices from others to compete with the nexus.

These are just a few reasons why i want the Nexus to take off and become a household name. Google is on to something great here and could change all of Androids partners for the better.

I agree but the only way i disagree is due to the fact that Google got rid of the removable battery and sd card slots.

If this succeeds so much, other manufacturers may make that same bad decision.

I want nexus to succeed, but i don't want to lose great features

sent from the best smart phone (not phablet) on the worst network- the galaxy S III unfortunately on T-Mobile

Like the HOX did or the iPhone always has? If anything, Google is following the others, not leading things down a terrible blind alley.

As Phil has noted, manufacturers are starting to move away from both things because it allows thinner builds and tighter structures. No removable back means no flexing which makes things feel cheap. Should they have offered a 32GB or 64GB model? Sure, and since I'm buying one immediately, it should come along in about 3 months just as it did with my Nexus 7 purchase. You're welcome, procrastinators!
