....for the status bar and "The Notch", or rather for phones which don't have one.

Now I understand that Google has to accommodate this for the phones which do. This obviously limits the number of icons which can be displayed on the status bar, but why the hell do they have to force this on EVERYONE?

Now there are people - like me - who would never buy a phone with a notch given the choice. Why, oh why, couldn't Google give an option to select a status bar to accommodate one or the other? There "compromise" are those pointless dots which mean you have to repeatedly swipe down to find out what's going on: this is SO frustrating.

Last rant is why does Bluetooth only show up when it's connected, and not when it's just turned on? 6 weeks I've been putting up with this and I'm tearing my hair out - even though my head's shaved!!

I think you are hating about the notch rather than andrpid pie here...apple also doesnt allow hiding the notch for serveral reasons.

To be clear - the OP has a valid complaint, one which I share. The Pixel 2 XL is forced to accommodate a notch on the notification bar even though it doesn't have one. It has a max of 4 notification icons before you get an indicator that there are more. This isn't a matter of wanting to effectively lowering the top of the screen below the notch on phones with a notch, it's a matter of enforcing the notch space on non-notch devices!

Correct, I am a notch hater.

What I object to is having to accommodate my status bar for a notch which I do not want. There are still a lot of phones being released without a notch, but we all have to suffer the consequences.

This is awful, it sounds like Google were very lazy in designing the Notification Bar for the Notch vs. for No Notch. They should have made it Dynamic, so that it adjusts depending on device.

Goddamn, I didn't realize that was a thing. Not exactly the kind of thing I'd expect from, um... Android. How difficult would it be to let us choose to keep our notification space on phones without a notch?

Google is going to have to eventually send out a minor update to fix this issue.

I know that a few years ago Google did have slightly different versions of Android OS for different makes of phones, so they might have to resort to that method.
