Why I'm not getting the G6, and keeping my G5.

Just paid off my G5 through Verizon. I know the G6 is a substantial upgrade in terms of the build quality, features like screen size, battery size and water proofing. However the G5 is nearly just as good and the speed and practical application of using the G5 daily just doesn't justify another device payment.

In short: the G5 is a damn good flagship that is every bit as good as an S7, and shelling out another $650-750 dollars for a few features that while nice, I don't need, seems silly. I'll stick with my G5.

I share the very same conclusions, the G5 is truly a powerful phone and I'm close to a year in with it, definitely a keeper. Since recently updating to Nougat I feel as though my phone has been reborn, heck even the battery life has increased. If it ain't broken, then you don't fit it right!!

Honestly, no phone in past 2 years has really brought significant change, especially not enough change to entice me to drop major $$ to upgrade. Happy with G5.

You can just wait it out until the market dwindles if the past is any indication and then buy it. The only reason I abandoned the G5 was for the V20... Partially for the screen size but mostly for the Quad DAC.

Heck, I still have my G4. I'm on my second one, (Bootloop). The only reason I am really thinking of upgrading is the bootloop issue. I'm seriously considering the G5. Prices are dropping, has a great camera, and I really like LG's software.

If not for the bootloop issue though, I wouldn't even be considering an upgrade from the G4. It does everything I need it to very well, and I really like the size, feel in hand, and the screen.
The phone manufactures still have us thinking that we need to upgrade to the latest and greatest every year, when in reality, we are paying out another $800 for very minor upgrades.

Good logic RapidTurtle, as for me I've never experienced the bootloop issue in my 1 year of using my G5. Love this baby.

Agreed on every point. I will say though, I'm holding out for the 2017 Pixel.

I really don't believe there is a gain in upgrading your device every year.
If you wait for at least every other year, you may gain a better appreciation for the incremental changes.(Windows Phone is not a glowing example of this philosophy, but Android is)
Today, assuming you have 2G RAM, a replaceable battery, and are running at least 6.0, there shouldn't be much reason to upgrade.
The LG G5 is probably my 10th phone in the last 2 years. Aside from the OS, performance has been the least of my issues across all of these devices. Every current device I have tried has been able to stand up to my everyday tasks.
My device Lust is strong. I want to handle them ALL, but I won't ever pay full price again.
Currently sporting the LG G5, S Note 4, and Microsoft 950XL.

Just grabbed a g5 for $5 a month at best buy. Only had the phone for a day, but I think its a steal. Plus they are giving free accessory pack which is a battery and charger for it. Grabbed the wife one also, both coming from a g4.

Every time I use my V20s I'm surprisingly satisfied. ...and I love new phone toys and trying new devices but the V20s have held my attention. My V10 and S7e? I could let those go for a G6 but not because of any fault of the devices. It seems all devices as of late are good and its hard to get a bad one.

I dont think I will upgrade either in the near future. I tend to keep phones two years or more unless there is some hardware issue. This is my 1st LG and first time buying unlocked with no contract. I got mine from B&h and used paypal credit 6 months no intrest. i have to pay it off by the end of april to avoid intrest and it will be paid off. Then I will only have my service to pay for.

I've read of people with unlocked G5's that haven't received the Nougat update. I'm curious if you have?

No The RS988 version that is both cdma and gsm capable has not gotten nougat yet. We have a thread here on that. Seems we will get it in April perhaps. We keep emailing LG about our phones.
We do have the Jan. 2017 security patch for android 6.0
