why is battery draining so fast with newly installed sd card ?

[Android Central Question]

I've had my LG Stylo 2 Plus for 1 year 3 months and never had any problem with battery drainage . Yesterday I purchased and installed a Samsung EVO plus 64 GB microSDXC UHS card , left my phone charging overnight and 3 hours later ( while plugged in to charge ) is at 63% .

Welcome to Android Central! So is the battery charging slowly? That doesn't necessarily mean the battery is draining quickly.

Is anything on the card, or is it still essentially blank? Did you move any photos or videos onto the card?

I put the sd card in and didn't put anything on it and charged all night; in the morning I unplugged it and within 30 minutes the battery was down to 63%; not a charging problem...a drainage problem. I installed Power Battery and App Manager III and it seems to help but was wondering why an sd card would affect the battery like this. Wrong card ? Wrong GB ?

Ok, and did you test it after taking out the SD card again to see if the battery usage immediately reverts back to normal?
