Re: Why is battery life short and WiFi slow on the Sony Xperia Z1
Two totally separate issues.
Connect to a wifi router that's not secured - IOW, no password - that a computer or laptop gets a good speed test from. Try the phone on the same speed test site. If the phone is still slow (abnormally, it's normal for a phone to be a little slower than a fast desktop), bring it back.
Battery life (I suspect you mean time between charges, not time between new batteries) is a complex issue. Check to see what's running in the background (
Greenify helps to control that). Check your mobile signal strength (a weak signal coming in means the signal going out will probably be weak at the tower, so the phone turns the transmitter up to full power, draining the battery quickly). Turn off wifi and/or Bluetooth when you don't need them. Try to never let the battery drop below 40% before recharging it. (We all want as much power as we can suck out of the battery, but lithium batteries don't last long doing that. Batteries that can, like gel cells, weigh too much to use in phones - the metallic element is lead. Lithium, for all its problems - and there are many - is the second lightest metal [and hydrogen is metallic only near absolute zero].) Waiting until the battery is almost dead every time you charge it will kill it in a few months.
