Why is Intelligent Scan running if I've never used it?

On my galaxy s9 I was in the Device Care setting and, as it was clearing the unnecessary apps running in the background, I saw Intelligent Scan in the list. I've never used this feature on my phone. Why would it suddenly and spontaneously be running in the background?

Intelligent scan is a system app on Samsung devices and as such does not require that you open it for it to run. Are you using face recognition to unlock your phone? It runs in conjunction with iris scan to better secure your device.
