Why is it when I download a widget, it doesn't show up in my apps?

Samsung Galaxy J3 on Virgin Mobile

I downloaded a flashlight widget and I can't find it. If I go into the settings> applications, it's listed there but any other place, no. So I can't put it on my home screen to use it. I can't find it anywhere on my phone except in the application settings. I tried a couple of different widgets and the same thing happens. If I download a flashlight app then it shows up in my applications. I want the widget. It's just a one touch, on/off flashlight. I don't want to have to open an application to do it. My previous Galaxy Victory let me download a flashlight widget.

? Have you look in your widgets?

-Tap and hold on the home screen
-Select widgets
- Tap and hold the widget
- Place it where you want it.

Hey all I've got a dilemma...My phone was checked for backing up of data and sd card,however,when i did a factory reset recently I cant get the data for two of my old apps back.! was a music download with all my music and the other was the ESPN Scorecenter.The mp3 player i paid for.How do I recover them.I've tried checking my gmail and all kinds of things.Maybe i'm missing something here
