Why is my Android 4.4 KitKat not connecting to WiFi..

I've had my tablet since December & have not had this problem before. WiFi is always off & when I turn it on, it doesn't turn blue, just stays grey & doesn't stay on. What can I do to correct this? Do I have to do a factory reset? Please help me...thank you

My tablet is a Bright-Tab 7" Adroid 4.4 KitKat...thank you for responding so fast, but I can't get the WiFi to stay on to get to that point. I guess I'm gonna have to do a factory reset. I don't know a whole lot about these devices so, I will probably be asking you more questions in the future. Again, Thank you so much for your help...Kathy Poncer

Are you saying that the wi-fi actually switches off on its own? Or that the connection drops, but the wi-fi switch stays on?
