Android Central Question

I recently placed a bolt case + screen protector on my google pixel 2 a few days ago. I consider my self to have common sense and have placed the screen protector on correctly. The proximity sensor is working because I cover it with my finger and the screen gets darker and when I remove my finger it gets lighter. Now the problem is, I tap on a person I want to call and the screen immediately goes black, the phone will ring and I can answer and can clearly communicate with the person. There is no end call button or speakerphone or anything like on the screen like there was yesterday. This started today and I don't remember it happening yesterday or I would have noticed. I haven't changed any display settings recently. So I figured id pick someones brain.

The sensor for the screen brightness and the proximity sensor are different, I think. One senses the amount of light, the other senses how close an object is.

Download an app named Elixir2. This will allow you to see the status of different sensors (and proximity and light ARE different). It sounds like your proximity sensor is covered by the screen protector. When you open the app and visit the sensors section you will see the different sensors. Press the "play" button for the proximity sensor and you can then test the functionality.
