Why is my camera not working?

[Android Central Question]

I have a 3-4 year old RCA voyager pro tablet that the camera is not working on. I've had this issue for about 2 years. I don't believe Its anything wrong with hardware, but rather the software, when I go into settings>apps, my camera app files do not show up. I don't mean photos, I mean the program itself. But on my home screen the app is there. It pretty much says "make sure the flashlight and other apps that require the camera arent open" I've tried closing all apps and just keeping the camera open. (My tablet doesn't have a flashlight option.) I've tried restarting it, and even hard resetting which all have not worked so I'm seeking someone else's help.

Thanks for your post. I am sorry this is happening. Have you tried to use the camera in safe mode? If it works in safe mode then it is a third party app. If it still doesn't work there is another problem.

Welcome to Android Central! When you go to Settings>Apps, you might have to tap Menu>Show System to see the Camera app listing.

Does the camera work in Safe Mode? On most Android devices, while powered on, press and hold Power until the Power Off menu appears. Press and hold the Power Off selection until the Safe Mode prompt appears. Tap OK.

On certain devices, you have to power off, then power back on, but when you see the manufacturer logo appear, press and hold Vol Down until the homescreen appears.
