Why is my cell phone going ballistic?

Cell phone going ballistic

I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2. The battery was reading 28 % so I plugged it in. Then it wouldn't charge and I couldn't even turn it on.

So I took the battery out for 5 minutes, put it back in and plugged it in again. "Downloading. Do not turn of target!!"

What's going on??!!

Download Mode is usually reached by pressing Power, Volume Down, and Home at the same time--you didn't do that, did you?

As long as you're not connected to the computer via USB and actively downloading a ROM, you can power down from that screen--pull the battery for 10 seconds, then reinsert it, but this time, don't power on. Leave it plugged into a wall outlet for 4-6 hours before trying to power on again. Does the same thing still occur? Does the battery even charge up? It might be worth trying a new battery.
