Why is my Galaxy S3 pinging with the sound switched off?

Galaxy s3 pinging with sound switched off

I am getting a regular group of four pings every fifteen minutes, even with sound switched off. Any suggestions for stopping them please. I don't have Yahoo installed.

Welcome to Android Central! Do they sound like the usual notification tones, or are they completely different?

Do you have anything with an NFC chip (like credit cards) right next to the phone? The NFC sensor can trigger a distinct tone if it detects another NFC chip.
