Why is my Galaxy S4 battery temperature so low?

Galaxy S4: battery temperature too low

My Samsung Galaxy S4 won't charge because the battery temperature is too low. Various apps show that the battery has a temperature of -25C (-13 degrees Fahrenheit) which is obviously wrong. I also found out that the thermostat is most likely broken as I can't get any readings from any temperatur app that I've tried. Is there a way for me to manually change the temperature in the system or via an app? I've also tried factory resetting the unit.

The sensor itself is bad. The phone is most likely under warranty, so bring it back and ask for an exchange. (Back up everything first, of course.)
