Why is my Galaxy S4 turning off by itself?

I've had it for about a year now, and it has just started over the last couple of days. Strangely, the only time that I have experienced it is when adjusting photo contrast in Instagram. This has happened both with the phone plugged into an outlet and when using the battery. What is happening? Is there a way to fix it? Thank you.

Have you tried editing the mentioned photo in phone's default editor or a third party app besides Instagram?
Try doing that and if it doesn't shut down when you edit it in the other app then instagram has some issues with your phone,if not then it's most probably the hardware

very strange, this might sound stupid, but have you tried just factory resetting it?
