I constantly have to manage space on my phone and now Google+ is taking up 1.23GB on my storage. Anyone know why or what I can do?

I've deleted photos off my device. I thought that the rest on Google+ are on cloud storage? Am I wrong?
They are, but for some reason they seem to remain in the "data" of the app. I had this similar problem a month or two ago. Here's that thread:
