Home screen going black.

Hey all,

I have searched the web, but most of the info I found relates to the screen going black during calls, which isn't the problem I'm having. My screen is actually fine during/after calls.

This is happening to me randomly and is just the home screen. The lock screen and notifications are still visible when this problem occurs.

I can randomly press the screen hoping to hit an app and they open fine. Sometimes when I back out of the app, the homescreen returns to normal although it can take a few goes, sometimes I have to restart the phone. It isn't happening all the time, in fact before today the last time it happened was Wednesday. I'm just worried that it will become more frequent and as is stands I am still under the 30 days in which I can return the phone for a refund.

I was using Go Launcher Z, although I have returned to the default launcher in case that's what the problem is. Phone has all updates installed, is on 5.1 with the build number LMY47D.

I found some instructions here, just want to know if the first option of wiping the Cache Partition is OK to do and likely to sort the problem? Also, if it is worth going ahead with a factory reset if that doesn't sort it? recomhub.com/blog/how-to-fix-lg-g4-black-screen/

Would appreciate any input.

Thanks

Re: Home screen going black.

Yes, wiping cache if fine to do, it will rebuild itself and you don't lose anything. It may or may not fix the problem but it's only a few minutes of your time.

If that doesn't help, factory reset is fine also if you are willing to do it. It will require a little more of your time to get your apps back, phone back to it's current layout, etc.

Or if you can return it you could just do that.

Cheers, can't get this to boot into recovery though, just keeps turning back on, following these instructions

Turn off your LG G4 (complete a full shut down process – press power key and select “power off” or press and hold power button for a few moments).
Then, press and hold Power and Volume Down buttons – don’t release the keys.
Keep pressing the buttons until the LG Logo is being displayed.
At that point release the buttons for about 1 second.
After that immediately press and hold Power and Volume Down keys pressed once more.
The recovery mode menu should be then displayed on your LG G4.

Re: Home screen going black.

OK, I managed something other then the phone turning back on, but it just went to the Factory data reset option.

Re: Home screen going black.

You must have ATT? They apparently killed the recovery options which are available on every other G4.

Re: Home screen going black.

Have you tried just holding down power and volume down the whole time instead of doing the 1 second release?

Re: Home screen going black.

Yeah tried that, and also releasing and holding straight away rather than waiting for the logo, neither worked.

Try releasing just the Power button when the LG logo appears, wait about half a second then press and hold it again (while holding the Vol Down button down the entire time).

Re: Home screen going black.

That took me to Factory data reset, thank you for the idea though.

Think I'll just do a reset on the phone. Thanks to all of you.
