HTC Car app always activating car mode

Hello,

Recently, I noticed that the App Store was indicating there was a new version of the HTC Car app. I decided to apply the update after a week of nagging or so which turned out to be a HUGE mistake. Now, the HTC Car app is always activating without any actions on my part. I have gone into System|App to force the application to stop and disable it, but I will still get the notifications in the status bar (little car is shown) and a notification of to exit out of Car mode is shown. Next, I tried to uninstall the update, but that only made the situation worst. Now I couldn't force the Car app to stop then disable it as the options were grayed out.

Each time I would exit out of Car mode by either touching the Exit button or pressing the back arrow on the HTC One, but after a few moments it would go back into that mode. What is strange is this doesn't appear to be happening at work, but while I am driving or at home is happening all the time.

I am at a lost as how to resolve this problem. I have tried searching online, but my google fu was poor and I couldn't find anything. I am becoming pretty frustrated with the software as it is draining my battery in a matter or hours since it is constantly activating the screen. I now have to keep the phone constantly plugged in while at home or connect it to an external battery to keep is going through the night.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I think my last stand is to root the phone or be forced to buy another phone.

It sounds like there is some kind of bug in the app. Have you tried clearing the data from the app to reset it?

I know this is an old thread, but I post this more for the google searchers than anything else.

If your car mode keeps coming on, chances are there is wad of pocket lint in your charging port.
Get a toothpic and carefully clean out that port. Pocket lint absorbs moisture and on a rainy day
it can trigger car mode if a small amount of mist dampens the lint.

Another hint of lint is when your charging stops for no reason.

HTC phones are very sensitive to this.
