HTC One M8 constantly restarting...

Hi All,

I'm completely new to the wonders of forums and am a bit of a tech *****... so I'd really appreciate any help that any of you guys could offer.

my HTC One M8 is constantly restarting itself. it boots up and allows me to use it for roughly a minute before restarting itself. This then constantly happens again and again.

Everyone I've spoken to has suggested a factory reset through the system recovery thing, but I have photos of my newborn baby on there that are only saved to the phone and I really don't want to lose them- they're the only ones i have.

is there any way of getting to the photos or fixing this issue without a factory reset?

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks

Adam

Welcome to Android Central! Are the photos saved to Internal Storage or the SD card? If they're on the SD card, you can Unmount the card (in the Settings>Storage menu), remove the card, and insert it into your computer. Then use Windows Explorer to copy the photos to the hard drive. You should be doing this on a regular basis anyway to protect your important photos, since mobile storage is not foolproof. Even better, take advantage of Google Photos Auto Backup: https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6193313?hl=en.

While the card is out, try rebooting and then seeing if the random reboots persist. A corrupt card can sometimes cause this problem.

If the photos are on Internal Storage and the phone doesn't stay on long enough for you to backup your photos, then try Safe Mode, which temporarily disables all 3rd party apps that you installed. If the problem is being caused by one of these apps, the random reboots should go away. The challenge, though, is to figure out which one is the culprit--this usually means uninstalling apps one by one in normal mode until the problem goes away. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-10853

Another general troubleshooting step is to wipe the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data. This can be especially helpful after a major system update--did your phone recently get one? https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-10672
