Why is my HTC One M8 constantly switching off even though the battery is fully charged?

My htc one M8 is constantly switching off even though the battery is fully charged.

Once the unit is plugged on to a power source it works. Once it is unplugged it works for about two minutes and then cuts off.

Are you able to try a different battery? Sounds like your battery is shot.
