Welcome to Android Central! Does it actually charge up to 100%, and then die within a couple of hours from 100%? The battery itself might be failing.

How much time does it take to a full charge? and how much amps does your charger produce?

The M8 has a diagnostic test you can run. Dial *#*#3424#*#* and then when the HTC Menu pops up, click Accept.

At the bottom, click More and then select "Battery Test" and then select Run. You'll need to be fully charged to 100% before you run this.

Is your device getting hot while charging, then while its unplugged?

Since update I noticed the same on my M8. I also religiously let my phone die and give proper power cycling.

Has to be the update. I went from 18-20h to 8-10 overnight.

That is actually not a good thing on modern lithium batteries. Letting them completely die, and holding them at a full charge, both hurt the life of the batteries. The best way to charge/cycle a lithium is to charge once it hits about 40%, then unplug it once it's full. They are not affected with memory loss from partial discharges/charges like older technologies.

Does this seem bad for my battery stats? The app usage % is concerning me. Still not terrible battery life, but seems like it could be better.

@mcal24 your app usage percent is normal, if you want to decrease that percentage, then don't use the apps, and while at turn ON the Extreme Power Saving mode. *friendly-sarcasm*

Side Note:-
Battery monitoring apps are always running in the background, that's how they collect statistics, the funny thing here is that the apps that are always running in the background consumes more power than the others, imagine the irony.

Thanks! Yeah I usually delete gsam if I'm not interested to see my battery stats. Just wanted to check it now that 5.0 was rolled out. Just thought the app usage seemed a little steep.

Re: my htc one m8 is taking forever to charge and battery dies with in hours.

The app usage is about normal. Running the battery down to 5% isn't good, though. If you do that all the time, you'll be replacing the battery in less than a year.

As mentioned in another thread, it's not the update. It's you that is causing the degradation. Stop letting your battery die.
