Why is my M8 labeling all incoming calls as anonymous?

T-Mobile M8: Caller ID labels all incoming calls "anonymous"

I've tried searching the forums and had no luck at all. (I also couldn't get anywhere with the HTC Support page.)

Can someone tell me why calls coming in to my One M8 are always displayed as "anonymous" in Caller ID (except for my own labelled Contacts, of course), while the same calls sent to my Oneplus One show up with full Caller ID?

The M8 is straight from TMO and unlocked. The unrooted OPO obviously has nothing to do with TMO bloatware apart from the SIM card inside it.

The only obvious Caller ID setting I can find on the M8 is for hiding/showing my number in outgoing calls. I can't find any setting option related to displaying or not displaying IDs for incoming calls.

Any ideas?

Your best bet would be to take both phones into a TMobile store that has techs and let them see the problem. It could be the provisioning on the account the M8 is on.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was hoping to avoid a drive to the TMO store, but as it's not a life/death issue, I can wait until some snow melts to do it.

I'm wondering, though, if I'm just going to get someone trying to sell me a "service" called Name ID instead of offering me an actual answer.

According to the TMO Support page about "calling services":

"For a monthly fee, Name ID lets you see the name and number calling, even if you don't have the caller's information stored in your phone. This service is available to our Simple Choice™ Plan customers. You can add Name ID to your line by changing your services on My T-Mobile."

Now in my universe, Caller ID should by definition include name along with number. That may not be how T-Mobile sees it. And it may be that my Oneplus is displaying name and number precisely because it is not a T-Mobile-bloated phone.

I have been using CallerID and block. It works really good, pulls up the CallerID even for Cell phones.
