Why is my music stuttering on my Galaxy S8

I had this same problem with the S7 and hoped they would have it fixed on the S8. I just got it yesterday and already I'm having jumpy audio when playing Google Play music over my bluetooth headset.

The music seems to play fine if i have it in my hand and am doing something, but if I turn the screen off and put it in my pocket, it's guaranteed that within 10 minutes it's going to start stuttering and jumping.

My old second gen ipod played music better than most samsung devices it seems. Does anyone else have this issue and/or know how to make it stop? if not I may end up exchanging it for a G6...which I'd rather not do.

Thanks in advance.

Its the bluetooth. First of all make sure you are getting and have gotten all the phone and samsung software updates. I know one of them offered up bluetooth improvements and I actually noticed a difference after installing it. At one of my work centers I set a BT speaker down and I simply was moving around between 3 tables in a short amount of distance, and that motion was causing tiny drop outs as if there was some kind of signal shaping going on and quick movements would lose the bluetooth connection. Very wierd, but like I said it is gone now after the updates. Otherwise no other outstanding issues with the blutooth on my end.

I do know currently my sennhiser headphones over bluetooth will also feature a slight blip about 20 seconds after any interaction with the audio stream (track skip, volume change, seeking inside of a track, EQ changes). Not sure who to blame for this one.

Wired playback has never given me problems.

the Bluetooth range for the S8 is straight up turrible. I know the additional BT version the S8 is capable of, so I'm not expecting the increased ranges. Instead, I'd like for it to just maintain the range with my Gear S2 that my S7 Edge was capable.

mlblack, since the BT update I had little problem moving so far from my speaker that I ran out of its audible range before I ran out of its radio signal range. This wasn't so much the case before as moving 2 rooms away I would notice the audio abruptly drops out.

Either way bluetooth is not intended to travel such distances, it was always a near field communication standard.

Even after the update (which I don't recall saying anything about bluetooth) I can't have my phone in my pocket and headset on my neck without getting dropouts. If I stand between the phone and a speaker I can make it cut out. It's horrible.

Galaxy S8 and S8+ bluetooth issue fixed through a software update – The Android Soul

and the human body being the worst thing for bluetooth is a known issue. Check out all the complaints on pretty much any of the non-tethered wireless earbuds, because the antenna is in the ear they constantly have drop out issues.

Course I can't ignore the fact that ALL bluetooth headphones out now are pretty much using crap for its bluetooth components. VERY FEW care enough about utilizing better compression like aptx for better sound quality and none of them are using anything like high quality DAC's and amplifiers. And your expecting a capable antenna array and buffer protection?

BT headphones come in 2 variety... you have a shiat headphone combined with shiat bluetooth electronics, or someone takes a good/great headphone already released and then slaps shiat bluetooth electronics in it. This automatically makes all earbud variety BT headphones crap. ;)

I agree with most of that except I don't have these issues using any other phone. My headphones are the Samsung Level U pro's and with the G6 they never dropped out even walking around my house between walls and floors. I had the phone in the same pocket and didn't have any issues at all. As for bluetooth speakers, I could leave my phone inside while washing the car and it wouldn't drop unless I put it on the opposite side of my car. With the S8 I can't even take the speaker into the next room let alone outside.

I've used these exact same speakers and headsets with an iPhone, Mate 9, G6, S7 and others. None of them ever did what the S8 is doing.

There is still something very wrong with the range on the S8.

Considering that the S8 and S7 use different Bluetooth chips, it most likely an issue with your headphones not the phones. What model are they?

I play Google Play Music over various bluetooth devices (headset, speaker, car) sometimes hours a day with my S8+ (and S7 before that) and have never had that problem. I did have a similar problem with a Samsung tablet a few years ago. I exchanged the tablet and never had a problem on the replacement. You may have a defective phone, but the fact that you had the same issue with the S7, makes me suspect the headset. Or perhaps you are using it in place with a lot of interference (like a microwave).

it's a brand new headset though my love used several different ones over the last year. The screwy thing is that it works great until I put it in my pocket, then it starts having issues. I was suspecting it was starting to run a process while the screen was off that was causing issues, power management or something, even though I don't have any on.

What brand is it?

There's several threads on this issue. It's definitely the phone. Some people got lucky, for whatever reason, and don't have this issue.

Again, he had the same issue with an S7 too. Unless he comes back and says otherwise, I'd bet its a cheap pair of Bluetooth headphones with a weak BT chip.

I have this issue too. Unlocked S8. I've tried multiple Bluetooth devices (jaybird BlueBuds, X2s, X3s, Yamaha receiver, Infiniti car, 2 Jabra Soulmates) none sound as good as my iPhone or Nokia Icon. And if I have a fitness band connected too, it gets exponentially worse.

Yours may be your phone. His isn't.
