Why is my Nexus 5 battery draining so quickly?

AC Question

Since the latest Marshmallow 6.0.1 update my battery is draining ridiculously fast - even when the phone is not in use. I have not changed any settings since the update a couple of days ago, although I did follow the advice to clear all the caches when I first noticed that the new OS not only was not improving batter life as promised, but exactly the opposite... Didn't help :(
If I do a factory reset, what might I lose in the process?
Thanks for any advice.

Factory reset will wipe all local data. Android is pretty good about backing up and restoring data these days, but it can be difficult to figure out what data might not be backed up, so do a backup yourself. You might want to use something like Helium.

Regarding the battery, charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

Thanks - I'll do what you suggest and send screen shots. So far, in the last 2 hours since full charge the battery is now down to 84% and says it has 12 hours life left - and the only thing I have done with the phone is receive 2 push notifications and check the battery in settings! Something is obviously not right here - I used to get around 35 hours of use between charges...

I'm not expert but when I have a drainage problem I check to see which apps were using the battery the most.

Thanks for the suggestion, I do check the apps, but nothing is using more than 1-3%, and I am not a big app user anyway - camera, whatsapp, and the regular phone functions of SMS and phonecalls, that's about it on a regular basis. I don't complain about the battery drain if I have been using the phone - but it crashed from 42% to 7% overnight, just sitting quietly in the corner by itself... And anyway, this has only been a major problem since the latest upgrade to Marshmallow and then Marshmallow 6.0.1 made it so much worse!

So I got up this morning (different time zone...) and found the phone gasping for juice...
I took a bunch of screenshots, hope I captured the data you asked for and that it can help solve my problem? Many TIAs

Hmm, can't find anything particularly unusual there besides the battery drain itself. Your cell signal looks mostly strong, Mobile Standby doesn't report any Time Without Signal, and no app seems to be using an inordinate amount of battery.

See what happens if you boot into Safe Mode: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2852139?hl=en

If it doesn't, then it's also worth trying to recalibrate the battery sensor. Charge to 100%, then use it normally until it shuts off from low battery. Charge up to 100% again, and repeat this cycle 3 times. Now see if the problem persists.

Sorry for not replying sooner - I just saw this message. I'll try what you suggest - thank you very much for taking the time over my problem!
