Why is my old galaxy s on start up screen saying "try again in 35,690,000 seconds?

[Android Central Question]

Phone turns on, displays opening screen with number pad for code entry, but the above message keeps scrolling on the button of screen.
I worked out 39 million seconds is roughly 440 days I have to wait to reenter a code I can't remember! Help please!

Factory reset in recovery then log in with your Google credentials
