why is my phone functioning so crappily?

First, let me just say I f***king despise this phone. But I'm sadly in no position to obtain another. Now, I can't remember exactly when this problem began, but it apparently doesn't have space for a damn thing. It started a while ago though, that's something I do know. Initially I had a picture editing app and Facebook and some other small-time social media/"meet new people" type apps, plus messenger, YouTube and YouTube's accompanying music app. Understandably some of those were hogging space, and Facebook is known to do that anyway. So I deleted all but messenger, yt, and yt music. Long story short all I have now is necessities (things I can't get rid of cuz they're preprogrammed on it) and the few other apps that actually make me want to use this phone. But it's still saying space isn't available so my phone is in this long drawn out process of losing functionality 1 app at a time. My memo app, the Google app, and my text messages were rendered inaccessible initially, now the problem is moving onto yt, yt music and my messenger messages are starting to not go through in my side or other people's. I don't know what could be using all my space, I don't have many apps and can't remember the last time I downloaded a new 1. I can't install my updates at all and it seems like every day a little more space is occupied like something is taking it without my permission. I constantly get annoying pop ups telling me what app has closed, & sometimes when I'm in my browser a webpage will pop up offering me some sort of antivirus protection thing & with no consent of mine download a file onto my phone ending in the letters .apk i believe. Idk where those downloads are so I can never find and delete them. I've tried ridding it of caches, unnecessary data etc. It doesn't even put a dent in the issue. Nothing I've tried does & I'm at my wit's end with this phone. It's becoming completely useless. And I'm not too tech savvy so Idk what to do.

Okay so first of all what phone do you have? And what size is it? 16GB, 32GB etc,.
Second. Can you please goto SETTINGS > Then search for STORAGE. In Storage, this will tell you what is taking up space. Can you take a screen shot of it and post here.
