Why is my phone not charging the charger is working but not charging the phone

When I plug the charger in the phone I hear ticking noise like a clock

What phone do you have? How long have you had it? Is it the original battery? Are you charging via a wall outlet or the USB port of a PC? Are you using the charger that came with the phone or a different charger? Have you tried a different outlet, a different cable or a different charger?

Welcome to Android Central! Is the ticking noise coming from the charger itself? Like a buzzing? That's usually not a good sign.

How do you know the charger works? Did you test it on another device?

I believe that I had a ticking charger years ago, but I don't recall what I did about it. I have an idea that I did nothing.

In my case? Now you’re really testing my memory. I believe that it was the charger. I seem to recall, dimly, and far from reliably, that the phone was a Nokia Lumia. This was, you understand, some time in the 18th century.
