Why do some of my text conversations in "Messenger" get split-up?

Some "conversations" get split into 2 separate conversations. The split seems to be into incoming messages versus outgoing messages, generally.

I'm on a Nexus 5, previously had an iPhone. Hangouts does not have this issue, so that is what I have been using, but would like to switch if possible.

Thanks very much!

On in coming texts I don't think you can control it. It's based on several things on the sender's end. Scrolling through your settings you should note a setting for breaking texts every 160 or 140 characters. That setting well effect how some of your recipients get your texts, but doesn't affect their texts. If they change their setting it will affect how you receive their texts. Also I've found that long texts from iPhone users get broken up and long texts from non smartphones will get broken up, but carrier and that setting can effect this as well. If you know your friend has an android you could ask them to check that setting. IPhone users may have a similar setting, not sure, but it won't matter if they are using iMessages or whatever it's called. Those will always get broken up, I think.

Oh and if you mean you have two conversations not broken up texts both with one contact, i.e. Carson Weekly, then you may just need a new app. Handcent and Go SMS are popular but there are tons of others.

Re: Why do some of my text conversations in "Messenger" get split-up?

Thanks for the reply. To clarify, the whole conversation gets broken up, not the texts within it. For example, I have 2 entries for my conversation with Larry, one of which contains all the outgoing messages, and one which contains the incoming. This only happens with a few (seemingly random) people.

That is very odd. I honestly can't say that I've heard of this happening before. Have you tried a third party app like Go SMS or Handcent?

Contact numbers in inbox not the actual number--extra country code?

Hey all,
I just got my new s5 in March and I'm already having problems. I've started getting texts back from my contacts from their number with an extra one at the front. So for example, I'll text a person at 1-208-xxx-xxxx and when he replies it's from 1-1-208-xxx-xxxx. So it's two separate threads for one conversation, but I can't reply to the double-one to consolidate convos since it's an invalid number. Quite annoying. I've tried googling the problem and I'm not hitting anything similar. Has that happened to anyone on here? I tried a normal restart and also a soft restart by removing the battery for five minutes to no avail.
Between this and the uber-annoying charging port/phone back notifications (thanks for not making that disable-able, AT&T), I'm about ready to run this thing over with my car and be done with it.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Phone is receiving texts in 11 digits

Hi everyone,
I have a slight problem that is becoming a nuisance, my phone all of a sudden began receiving text messages from a weird phone number format for instance
A phone number has a 10 digit format
Ex: 1 562 444 4444
And up until about half an hour ago that was how everything ran on it fine and dandy, now all of a sudden my phone is receiving the same persons text message number as: 11 562 444 4444
Adding the extra 1 in there and creating an 11 digit number, my phone then treats this as an entirely different phone number and creates another message thread with this persons response, however if I go to respond to the message on the newly created thread I receive an error invalid number message. So I send messages in the thread with the 10 digit number and receive the messages from the same person in a separate thread as an 11 digit number.
Has anyone had this problem and has anyone been able to fix it?
Thanks

Re: Contact numbers in inbox not the actual number--extra country code?

Having the same issue as of now I did the same with the resets before reading this no luck

Re: Phone is receiving texts in 11 digits

My phone is doing the exact same thing, let me know if you find anything out!
Thanks

Re: Contact numbers in inbox not the actual number--extra country code?

Literally made this account 2 minutes ago to ask about this same thing. Just started to randomly happen about 10 minutes ago and cannot get it to fix. Tried resetting both ways as well but to no avail. Had my recipient restart their phone as well and still nothing. So far only happening with 1 recipient but have not tried to text anyone else yet.

Text Contact Number Error: Extra 1 in Contact Phone Number

Well my friend and I were texting with no problem or incident. Suddenly however when I send her a text now it adds an extra 1 in my phone number. Example: Normal Number +10234567 Error Number +110234567. Because of this extra 1 it opened a new texting thread which gives her an error when she tries to text me in that thread. To text me she has to go back and forth between the new and old thread. Any ideas?

She's tried:
Soft reset
Erasing my number from her contacts and reentering it
Deleting the new thread

Her Phone is a Samsung Note 4

Thought I was going insane. Started happening to me about two hours ago on my ATT One m8, and it's only one person I can't text, their carrier is T-Mobile.

Sounds like a network thing if it's the same for each of us.

Re: Contact numbers in inbox not the actual number--extra country code?

I think the person above me is right. It must be the network because mine doesn't have that issue

Re: Contact numbers in inbox not the actual number--extra country code?

Yeah I'm on ATT as well and my recipient is on Verizon so it could very well be an ATT thing that hopefully gets fixed soon.

Re: Contact numbers in inbox not the actual number--extra country code?

Created an account to inquire about this. Started happening to me a couple of hours ago. I'm on ATT as well

Re: Contact numbers in inbox not the actual number--extra country code?

So are we concluding that it's just att? That is my carrier aswell

my number had extra digits when i text someone and they cant reply

When I text someone who I text regularly my number has been showing up in their inbox with an extra 1 at the front. They can't reply to that number. They have to go to their contacts and find my number to respond. Anyone know how to fix this

Re: Contact numbers in inbox not the actual number--extra country code?

I'm so glad I found this. It started for me this morning also. And if course, I have AT&T. Anyone know why this is happening all of a sudden?

Mine is doing the same thing. I'm not sure how to fix it!
