why is my samsung s7 edge battery draining fast?

hi, my s7e was working fine. fast charging and good battery life.

recently while i was charging til about 87%, i fell asleep. when i woke up 7-8 hours later, my phone was very hot.

after that i realised my phone's been draining battery fast and also it doesnt seem to charge up as fast as it would.

one point to note is my fast charger's cable is kind of ruined. i dont know how to describe it but it is a common problem with chargers when the tip was twisted and bend for a prolong period of time the wire sort of came off. could this be the reason of the slower charging?

or is everything just my placebo effect?

If the phone was heating up, there was something wrong. Throw away any damaged cable as that could lead to port damage.

it could either be heating up during charging, or some background program is running I think

You can turn off the software that you don't use. When you charge your phone, you'd better remove the phone case.
