Why is my Samsung screen blinking on and off every 2 seconds?

Samsung screen blinking on and off every 2 seconds

I have a Samsung S4 mini. I've had it for just over a year. Yesterday the screen started blinking on and off, swiftly followed by a notification saying my SD card was damaged and i should reformat it. However a few hours later the screen returned to normal and the SD card was working fine. Tonight the screen is flashing on and off every 2 seconds and now the SD card notification has come on again. I've run anti virus and it's not picking anything up...any suggestions please?

Try unmounting and removing the SD card.
Tell us what happens.

Thanks for your answer. I tried taking out the SD card but nothing changed.
