Why is my speaker suddenly stuttering and crackling?

Music and sounds work perfectly when earphones are plugged in, but once the earphones are removed, all the music and sounds become inaudible, crackling and stutter. This happened all of a sudden when I tried to play some music and have no idea what the reason is. Could it be a blown speaker even though the sound works perfectly with earphones? Thank you.
