Why is my storage showing that I have less storage then I actually do?

S4 storage issue

I just got as S4. So it has 16GB of storage. Right off the bat, Miscellaneous Files occupy 6.27 GB. I have no photos on phone or the 16GB micro SD card. Applications are showing 8.83 GB used. The only apps I have downloaded are Spotify (29.93 MB) and Gmail (10.39 MB). I only have 591 MB free. Is there something wrong with the phone? Is it set up incorrectly? Is this how it is for everyone?

Welcome to AC
That is not normal. Out of the box, you should have around 9.7 GB left (The other 6GB are for the OS). Did you buy the phone new?
