Why Is Sprint Going With LTE Over WiMax?

Sprint was under the "use it or lose clause" by the FCC. If Sprint didn't deploy Wimax at the time they would have lost that spectrum.

It is desirable for manufacturers not to have to make a special device just for Sprint with technology no one else uses. Sprint has to pay more if they require Wimax instead of (the standard) LTE. And some manufacturers (Apple) will flat out refuse. So users get access to better phones and Sprint profit margins improve because of the switch to LTE.
