Why is the background white on white in the messages app?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7. I just got the nougat update and I'm having this issue where the messages are on a white background and the text is white as well. It's impossible to work with and so far I've been unable to fix it. Changing the background only works inside the actual text threads, And wiping the cache does nothing. Suggestions are appreciated.

Are you using a theme? If so try going back to the default theme or choosing another one.

I also have this problem, best fix I have found is to change text to high contrast mode in the settings menu, but it looks horrible

A soft reset has fixed this problem for me.

The factory reset in settings

NOT the hard reset by pressing volume up,home button and power
