Why is the FFC so bad

(Note: Yeah I know front facing camera's are far from the most important feature, but still)

I really don't get it. I had the LG G4 and I remember that 8MP front camera being awesome. Ever since then, these 5MP cameras that LG has been sticking on the front of these things (past 2 generations at least) have been lackluster. Absolutely anything other then perfect sunlight and they are almost unusable. To actually go backwards in this department is a real head scratcher.
 
Yeah going to have to agree if they had put a better front facing camera I would called this phone perfect.
 
I admit that I have not played with the FFC enough to find any faults.

What are the specific complains you have about it?

Assuming the sensor is using current tech, the advantage of a lower megapixel count is that the larger "pixels" on the sensor are better at low light.
