Why is the update taking so long to roll out?

"10k users will get Froyo Friday, then 100k on Monday, and another 200k every day after that until 9/3"

I'm sorry, what? What if I was out the country until 9/4 I can no longer receive the update because I missed the window?

Also does any one know if you wipe your phone (settings > Privacy > Factory data reset) will it go back to 2.1? Or does Android 2.2 actually flash the bios so to speak? Similar to updating the bios on your mother board.

Woke up about 45 min ago and was prompted to install the update, it appears the push is still going.
