Why is there a green horizontal line going down my screen?

I own a s7 edge and out of nowhere a green horizontal line started going down my screen, almost like a fingerprint reader from the movies. Sometimes the screen turns on to allow me to view the lock screen and the green line goes away, but a green rectangle takes over and covers the bottom half of the screen. the always on screen feature works all the time and i dont remember dropping it at all. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Honestly it does sound like a hardware problem, likely in the connection between the motherboard and screen.
