Android Central Question

Why is there no COPY & PASTE function in the message app?

One of the many quirks of the Pixel 3 that I don't like is the inability to copy and paste SMS text in Messages app. Why in the world would this basic feature that was on the first personal computer ever invented, not be on this so called high end phone.

Very disappointing. I emailed Google support through the link in the Play Store but only got the requisite canned no-response response..

How are you not able to copy and paste? I do that all the time. If you long press the text message input box, the "paste" option comes in. If you long press any existing messages, it gives you the copy option.

You may want to consider using a third-party messaging application that supports a copy and paste function. I use Textra and have been happy with its functionality. Good luck!

Seriously, I think copy and paste was available on my original Nexus 1....

I don't think there is a texting app that doesn't support it.

Works for me. Like mentioned above you long press the text you want to copy, highlight it and choose copy. This feature has been around since the Nexus days on the stock messaging app at least since the Nexus 6p.

Thank you to all who replied. I didn't recognize the copy/paste icon in the message. I was looking for something under the three-dot menu.

User error here. Sorry, but thanks for pointing out

Ha, I was right about my N1...

An excerpt from 2010:
"Because most early Android phones supplied a physical keyboard, the operating system initially relied on users selecting text using arrow key combinations. Newer Android models like the Google branded Nexus One can’t do that however. Like the iPhone, they have no physical keys to mash around on like a text-based DOS PC.

Not to worry! You can scroll through menus in Android with the trackball to set up a text selection operation, then touch a selection with your finger. Well, if the app you’re using supports copy and paste (and that excludes Google’s own Gmail). And you can’t edit your selection; it just automatically copies it to the clipboard, so make sure you touch your fingers over the selection perfectly the first time."
