Why is there no reboot option on a Nexus 5

Is it because of my carrier, T-Mobile, that I do not have a reboot option anymore?

If you mean Power Off and Restart, I don't have that option either....just the Power Off option. Mine is an unlocked device.

If you hold the power button in for 10-15 seconds instead of tapping the shutdown option, it will reboot.

To OP, have you had that option with N5? This is one of the main reasons I root. Quick Boot reboot provides all the power options if you want to stay with stock. But, patruns offered the simplest solution.

There's no reboot option in the stock ROM. The only way to get it is to flash to a different ROM that has it.

Wrong. As stated above: hold the power button down for 10-15 seconds and the Nexus 5 goes into reboot.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just recently switched from an HTC One M8 to a Nexus 6P and found the lack of a restart command after long-pressing the power button odd!

I understand that holding down the power button WILL eventually restart the phone, but isn't this a "hard" reset primarily intended for system freezes (it essentially acts as a battery pull in my understanding) and, therefore, bad for your phone if done on a consistent basis? I feel as if it's no different than restarting your PC by physically unplugging it from the wall and plugging it back in, an act that could cause data loss and even ACTUAL physical damage.

If anyone could elaborate, I'd greatly appreciate it! As it stands, this thread seems to conclude that "hard" resetting is a perfectly viable alternative for those of us with missing reboot commands, and I'd hate for casual users looking for a workaround to start doing this habitually, especially because this thread is among the first handful of results to pop up when Googling the issue!

Thanks in advance!
