Why is there no sound on my Xiaomi Redmi 6?

[Android Central Question]

Yesterday it was working just fine, this morning no alarm sound or media sound. Tried plugging the headphones n and out, not a "did you volume up or go silent mode..." issue either, all sounds are up and my phone doesn't think the headphones are connected. Also, after a speaker test (*#*#6484#*#*, I believe...) I actually heard an extremely silent voice, so silent I had to put my ear on the speaker to be able answer the speaker test question whether its a mans or a womans voice.
What do I do?

Have you cleared the cache partition and rebooted it?

If your problem is like mine was, i.e. ONLY multimedia audio is not working (mp3 player, YT), whilst ringtones, calls, alarms and all the rest of sounds works normally then here is the solution that worked for me:

Apparently Xiaomi has problem detecting audio jack disconnection, especially if you unplug it during playback. Just try to plug and unplug headphone cable once or few times and watch headphone icon that should appear and disappear in the top menu. That was enough in my case.
