Why isn't Google Duo compatible "with this version?"

Initially searched for "DUO" and it did not turn up at all. Changed to Google Duo and it came up but is "Your device is NOT compatible with this version."

"Requires Android 4.1 and up"

Any info appreciated.

Yeah we'd all like some info... What are you talking about? What is or is not compatible with a DUO?

The Samsung Tab S 10.5? I wanted to try it out on the Tab but, I guess not.

Wow, just checked for Duo on my N9 and it, too, is not compatible "with this device." During the few times I have video chatted, I found the tablet a better experience because of the massive battery. Hangouts on my phone could kill the battery.

Duo can only be used on phones from what I understand. That's why it's tied to your phone number and not your Google account.

That is interesting. I wonder why they went that route?
I guess because it doesn't have multidevice support. You need a device with a phone number in order to use it so wifi tablets are automatically out. I guess it has something to do with the experience they're trying to create. I'm really not sure. I honestly don't think they know what they're doing.

I have a cellular tablet with its own number and it's not compatible with it

I have a cellular tablet with its own number and it's not compatible with it

It works with my old phone (no longer tied to a carrier) using a Google voice number. My son uses it as his first phone.
