Why isn't my HTC Desire working?

my htc desire can not work

i have been inserting the sim card but it keeps telling me that sim/uicc is invaild .what
can i do?

Are you using the HTC Desire on the carrier it was originally branded to, or are you using it on a different carrier? If you are using it on a different carrier, it the phone unlocked?
