1. reboot everything (modem, wifi router, and phone) and try again.
2. check wifi settings. try a different channel.

Welcome to Android Central! Does this happen only on your home wi-fi or on any wi-fi network?

If all else fails:

It might be worth checking your time & date settings.
They must be correct to get a good wi-fi connection.
Settings / Date & Time.
Should be automatically set.

Also I have seen some tempermental routers whereby the best way to connect was to use the WPS Push Button automatic connection option. N5 has this feature under Settings / Wi-Fi / Advanced / WPS Push button. Your router must have the WPS option as well.

Android problems we all face this type of problems no worries..Try to change your date and time to the local date and time. The router are generally configured to the local time. If you brought your LG Nexus 5 from a different country or just playing around with wifi without using the sim then try this step and it should work.
