If it's charging you are connected. You don't need any software to copy music or move photos over. Does your phone show up in the file Explorer on your computer?

Sounds like pin 2 or 3 is disconnected in your charging port. Ports come loose, they break - even the cable can have a bad connection. You need a technician to troubleshoot the problem.
