Samsung Galaxy S4 Bluetooth "Media Audio" not activating

I drive a 2013 Land Rover LR2. Like many on here, I can only get phone audio to connect on my Verizon GS4. When I check media audio under bluetooth settings for the paired "Land Rover" bluetooth device, it goes gray like it's in the process of connecting, but then unchecks itself after a couple seconds. I've tried the Bluetooth Auto Connect App and A2DP Volume app to no avail. I've tried disabling the Samsung S Voice program. I've tried unpairing and wiping the bluetooth cache on both the car system and the GS4. I've attempted to pair the media audio before the phone audio.

I'm waiting on a return call from the dealership to see if there is an update to the car's bluetooth system. My mother's Nokia Lumia 920 synced perfectly and we were able to make calls, hear audio, listen to text messages, reply to text messages, etc so I don't think the car's system is out-of-date. My phone is running Android 4.4.2 (SCH-I545).

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 Bluetooth "Media Audio" not activating

Welcome to Android Central! I've seen a few other posts similar to this, with other cars and other Samsung devices. It seems that Bluetooth streaming audio may be more prone to compatibility issues than phone audio. I wouldn't necessarily trust the dealership to know exactly what's going on with compatibility--you might have better luck contacting Land Rover directly: Contact Us | Land Rover USA

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 Bluetooth "Media Audio" not activating

Thanks, I did that and the SCH-I545 is listed as compatible for all functions on the Land Rover website. I'm still going to check if there is an update to the car system's software though.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 Bluetooth "Media Audio" not activating

If you're talking about the Connectivity support page on Land Rover, I checked that too, and noticed that it only specified compatibility with phone calling functions for any of the phones listed, and didn't mention specific Media Audio compatibility. So it might be better to try to reach an actual tech support person there who might know a little more.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 Bluetooth "Media Audio" not activating

Thanks, I'm going to try this procedure as well.
I have the same issue with my Galaxy s5 with my mini van sienna LTD 2011 model. Previously I don't have any issues with my iphone 4s. But with s5 I am able to solve my problem and now everytime I start the car the bluetooth in s5 connects automatically. you can try this process I did and might help you and any one else with similar problems.

Steps to resolve:
First I removed the phone from the car navigation system (i.e Unregister / delete phone details in cars NAV system)
Then in Galaxy s5 Reset the settings to factory default settings (under settings -> Backup and reset - >Reset settings) This will reset all the settings to factory default. You will not lose any data but if you have any settings preferred for any application you will lose that and you might need to do that again
After reset the system will restart
Now this is the main part you need to be more careful
If you car system has both phone and Bluetooth features like mine does then go the Setup in the car system select the phone settings, select manage phones add new phone once the connection wizard starts in you phone go to settings bluetooth and scan for devices.
This should now show your car device info.
Select the car info and this should start pair and connection.
Once the connection completes first you will see connected to phone audio and media audio then it will turn to connected to phone audio
Select the settings icon next to the car name
it will show 2 check boxes (one is selected)
in the car system now go to audio -> bluetooth and hit connect (now this will start looking to pair)
in your phone select the media audio check box after few sec both phone and media check boxes should be selected. Come out of the screen. try to play some music and see if the car system plays the music
Do the same with phone if you able to see the contacts
Now turn off the car and lock the phone (sleep mode)
try turning the car on and wait to see if your system shows bluetooth connected successfully. Now repeat above steps just playing music from phone and seeing contacts in car system

Sorry for long and lengthy process. Let me know if this resolved ur problem.

**UPDATE: This did not solve my problem. Sigh.

It said the same for the Nokia Lumia 92X. I guess it doesn't drill down and specify. Land Rover USA directed me to a dealership when I called and the dealership told me that their "Bluetooth Whisperer" is not in until next Monday.

LOL, "Bluetooth whisperer"!:D

Good luck, hope he can figure it out!

Hi
I have a Samsung note 3 and learned by trouble shooting that the issue is the blue tooth settings in the car after the lollipop upgrade.
I did a factory reset in the car and everything works perfect now.
I just had to reset the settings in the car to they I had them like, lighting, volume, etc. nothing like factory resetting the phone.
