I dont get it.. if the RAZR and Bionic have such close hardware, and the Bionic has terrible battery life, why is Smart Actions being left out?!?!

I would gladly spend the $6.50 again...my Bionic has about 30 automations/customiztions set. Truly amazing!

Well, I've had "TASKER" since Mid November and I'm VERY happy. I have the following set up working smooth:

a. Tell me when wifi connects or disconnects (via speech).

b. Tell me when my phone is fully charged (via speech).

c. Make a reminder beep 5 minutes after a missed text and 4 more reminders until viewed.

d. Changes my Background image at work, home (after Wifi connect) and different otherwise depending on the time of day.

e. Adjusts my screen brightness & sound depending on what time of day, where I am, or what APP I start up, or if I'm driving (adjusted to day or night, depending).

f. When I get in my car it turns on GPS, turns off Wifi, activates my Trapster (police radar program), my email/text voice reader and activates my speakerphone and Car Dock app.

g. When I come within range of my work or home networks, it activates my Wifi and searches for my SSID networks to connect to.

h. When I get out of my car, it tells me (via speech) to "Turn off Driving Apps". [Note: Gingerbread operating system doesn't allow one app to turn off another.] Turns off GPS.

i. I added a permanent icon on my pull down notification bar for adjusting BRIGHTNESS.

j. I added a permanent icon on my pull down notification bar for adjusting SOUND.

k. I added a permanent icon on my pull down notification bar for PHONE.

l. I added a permanent icon on my pull down notification bar for turning WIFI on/off.

m. When I plug headphones into my Bionic, it adjusts my volume down and pops up a Menu of APPS that are usually activated while wearing headphones.

n. I created a Widget for Navigation Favorites, when pressed pops up a menu of stored locations I may want to click on for directions.

o. Find phone, when I text a word or phrase, I am text back a map showing the location determined by using GPS and WIFI.

p. App orientation, I set it to automatically change the screens orientation when I activated certain apps to the desired format.

q. When I activate my Bed Dock, it adjusts my screen brightness real low. And in the morning it adjusts the brightness back to normal.

r. If I turn my phone "face down" it goes into silent mode.

s. I set it to "override" silent mode, if my wife calls.

t. I can text a certain word/phrase to my phone to make loud noise when I can't find it (which overrides silent mode).

u. If I turn my phone "upside down" it turns on my FLASHLIGHT app.

v. I have a "I'm busy, text me back" mode, if on (and can set a timer too), anyone calling will get an auto reply saying "I'm not available right now, please text me and I will reply when I can".

w. When I click on my Camera Icon/Widget, a Menu pops upwhere I can choose different camera apps or camcorder.

x. And I have a song Widget, where a Menu pops up to start a certain song and stop a certain song. I use that one to make my Granddaughter smile when I'm trying to take a picture.

y. I have about 20 people programmed to automatically receive a "Happy Birthday" text on their Birthdays.

Downside? It's a little difficult to master and IT'S NOT FREE. Would i do it again? In a heartbeat!

Double damn, me too!!! That's totally worth 6.50!

Tapatalked from my Bionic

I've never had any luck with tasker changing GPS state. I didn't think apps were allowed to.

I can confirm its quite powerful and useful but I guess my need for automation had changed since I haven't set it up on the Bionic yet.
I used it a lot on my OG Droid.

I'm sure it will be on the Bionic when it gets ICS. The Bionic hasn't been getting upgraded software..it's been getting bug fixes. Smart Actions isn't compatible with Android 2.3.4. They aren't going to upgrade the software version just for Smart Actions when they're working on ICS. That's just my opinion of course.

I don't have near the number of tasks set, but totally worth the price.

My two favorite tasks are:
1) charging dock at night, notification sounds go to just low enough to hear if awake. Take it out, back to normal.
2) car dock: make sure bluetooth and gps are turned on

Well what software is the RAZR running

The RAZR runs 2.3.6 and as far as I know, the Bionic is still on 2.3.4 ( I just upgraded about three weeks ago from one). I hope it gets it though because it's a useful feature...especially the low battery one.

Hey thanks for the tip about Tasker. This is exactly what I read the forums for! :)

My pleasure!

When I heard that the Iphone had Suri, I added "Voice Actions" aka "Jeanne" on my Bionic with upgraded FREE voice called "Ivona" all from the market.

Then, when I heard about the Razr and having "Smart Actions", I investigated and found the superior "Tasker" :)

Tasker did give me headaches, trying to learn it but I love it now.

I also installed tasker. Its quite impressive. However use some caution. I set up several profiles with no issues. (Guided by the Web site support) I then set up the wallpaper to change every few minutes. Worked for a short time but about ten minutes of running it blacked my screen. Would not turn on. Battery pull didn't work rebooting in different modes didn't help. after hours of trying I had to do a factory rest. Restored with Titanium backup (props to TB ). Now debating on reinstalling tasker. Just thought I'd share.

While I agree Smart Actions is nice to have for free....I need something a lil better and will be evaluating Tasker, Locale and similar apps.

So if you dont have Smart Actions....dont sweat it. I only use it as a one stop shop now, condense multiple button presses into one. All my SA's are set to manual now too. I'm also guessing that not using Smart Actions for turning off data when the screen is off makes data reception more stable.

I finally downloaded Tasked and have a question. When I set up screen changer I want it to access the live or regular wallpaper not my pics. How do I do that? Any help would be appreciated.

I only have still wallpapers changing but I will try to figure it out.

BTW, here are the best resources I know where I learned how to do everything with Tasker:

1. Google exactly - "what Tasker profiles is everyone using??" and you will get a ton.

2. Profiles - Tasker Wiki

Good luck!

EDIT: I found (on http://tasker.dinglisch.net/todo.html) where Tasker says "Live Wallpaper" is in the "Plans".

Thanks for the response. Will jump on it when the live wallpaper option becomes available. Tasker does have a learning curve but am getting there.
