Welcome to Android Central! If it's an older model, this kind of thing is not unusual. Is it still slow in Safe Mode?

You use any antivirus or app cleaners?

Try clearing cache in recovery , sometimes needed with build up of files and updates

Check for updates, both system and apps. Check your storage space available. If it's getting low then remove/disable unused apps. Check your settings for remove animations setting, if it's there then your phone will feel a whole lot more responsive by turning animations off.
