Why my Samsung Galaxy Core is not connecting to my Laptop?

My Samsung Galaxy Core will connect to my laptop to charge, but it cannot prompt to open files. I need to upload pictures from my phone to the laptop.

My mother's android connects and is read on the laptop, therefore it isn't the laptop.

1. Is the USB cable fine?
2. On which Android version is your Samsung?
3. Is your phone brand new, or did this problem occur since any change on your phone or laptop?
4. Is there option on Notification bar allows you connect phone as MTP?
Since Samsung Galaxy Core was released in 2013, I'd guess the problem happened recently.
