Why no signature?

He asked if it was a bad thing, and why. I gave my view. You can state yours as well. Anyone in this thread is welcome to offer their opinion. Not sure why you are having such an issue with the discussion. As for email - email and SMS (SHORT Message Service) are generally used for different things, and emails today are often used as a communication of record. I'll not waste a bunch of time here explaining all the differences between email and SMS and how they are used. You have your view and it is different than mine. That is perfectly fine with me. I don't have a problem with the differing viewpoints in this thread or any thread. I don't see anything wrong with the discussion.

I think if you took a poll most people would prefer not to see sigs in the txt's they receive. I personally do not know a single person who uses them - I literally never receive txt's with sigs (in years). Doesn't mean you can't, and no one can stop you if you want to. So do what ever you like.
Sorry, but I am used to seeing signatures.

Interesting conversation!
Truth is that I rarely ever text someone that I don't know. I recently did. I thought they had me in their phone book but apparently didn't and ask back 'who is this?' To which I gladly replied. But I did wonder as typed it if they had me in there, so I should have said 'Hey, this is Bob. I have a question.'
Which lead me to wondering if all of the other addon txt apps like Textra include a sig option, why doesn't Samsung?
They used to have one in a previous phone.
No big deal. I was just wondering if there was a reason to NOT have a sig option in a text app.
Thanks for the feedback,
#thisisbob

Usually the reason Samsung removes an item is because they find it's not used by a large portion of users. However as others have stated, these dropped items can easily be replaced by using third-party apps which in some cases do a better job than stock apps.

Case in point being signatures and text messaging. Textra does a much better job than stock for text and MMS. You get signatures and individual message tones back. Also GIF implementation is better as it allows you to search.

SMS doesn't have signatures, you can just add some text at the end with your name. (SMS is the old pocket pager protocol - and all you got was the caller's phone number, so there was no need for a signature field in the protocol.) Some texting apps have the provision to add a signature, but that just adds the "signature" text at the end of the text. It still counts as part of the 140 octets (160 ASCII characters) you're sending.

So if you absolutely must have your name at the end of a text, just put it there. It's not that much work.

I still am miffed about the individual message tones, I liked the Samsung messages app, especially the pinch to zoom, but they had to get rid of the individual message tones and so I am back on Textra with no pinch to zoom.

WAIT WAIT WAIT.
I noticed that I couldn't find the 'notification sound' on anyone's contact info after the upgrade, but thought it must be hidden somewhere and I'd find it later on my Note 8.
Are you saying that option is now gone??Everyone's text tones now HAVE to stay the same annoying sound?
Surely I'm wrong.

If it's still there, we cannot find it. Yes, on the stock messaging app everyone's text tones are now the same.
