oh and the V30 is selling like hot cake here in germany, one carrier (1&1) is carrying it exclusive.

I've gotten recent security updates for V20 through my carrier Verizon.
Maybe it's your carrier.
Also, The V20 launched with the latest OS. Only the Pixel phones have the new OS now so not really behind on OS.

Carrier phones still get updates. Unlocked ones usually don't. I'm not worried about my phone getting hacked. I would like to see software fixes but there really isn't much to fix anyway. By the way, no updates on the unlocked version but I really can't complain, no carrier branding and I still have half more features than most people.

And Note 8 Enterprise Edition with Knox security, guaranteed updates. No removable battery though, small battery too.

My opinion is don't expect updates unless you have an Apple device or a Google device.

For all others... You mine as well roll the dice and pray.
