Why no Verizon support on the OnePlusOne??

Yes but most people who want unlocked phones want them specifically because they shun postpaid carriers.

Where would the customers go? Even if they didn't subscribe to a postpaid plan and went with a prepaid plan instead, the same carriers run the underlying networks, at least in the United States. For example, AT&T runs Cricket Wireless. If you're using service on Cricket Wireless, you're actually using AT&T's cell towers.

But that doesn't matter. Prepaid plans are entirely different. Much better prices and much better choices.

I think it's more accurate to say that prepaid and postpaid plans cater to different people's needs. For example, many prepaid plans do not offer roaming. Postpaid plans often have roaming included. This may be important to some people, and they are willing to pay the extra cost.

If it's PagePlus (on Verizon) they do offer roaming. For most people, AT&T native coverage is fine.

That's an excellent point. Would you be opposed to OnePlus making the One for PagePlus?

It would be the "PagePlus OnePlus One," which has a nice ring to it. Well, at least I think it does. ;)

Lol, no, of course I'm not opposed to that. I think Verizon customers should be able to have any phone they'd like.

Reviving an old thread here but boy oh boy do I wish I could have a OnePlus One... However without Verizon I am sh** out of luck. The AT&T coverage when I lived in NYC was atrocious. They upgraded and added more coverage and yes it got better, but it still sucked where I later moved to Jersey City. Dropped calls galore on my ex's iPhone 5 and my landlady's Samsung. Meanwhile my call quality was perfection under a Verizon BB Storm2 and then later an iPhone 4.

A couple of weeks ago I had the good fortune of running across someone with a OnePlus One and what a fantastic phone it is. Amazing. I wanted it. I have never wanted a so called smartphone so badly. But AT&T in my town is so bad that it's just not possible. Not to mention the AT&T coverage in between towns is completely nonexistent. You can drive for 20 minutes and have no signal at all.

Many of us MUST use Verizon. It's our only realistic choice so I don't care that they use a technology ignored by the rest of the world. They use it here, where I live and that will not change any time soon. Verizon has the best coverage in the United States. That is indisputable.

So I have an 64GB iPhone 6 on order with Verizon (they are giving me $200 for my iPhone 4 so that takes away most of the up front cost).

Were there a way to use a OnePlus One with Verizon I would buy immediately.

Perhaps we will see a miracle with the OnePlus Two. God I hope so.

I should mention I went with the iPhone 6 because I have two trips to Asia planned next year and with the GSM being unlocked I can just slap a local SM card in the phone and go cheap. I can even sell that iPhone before I come home if I want.

Well said. I find it puzzling when I hear people putting down Verizon customers. If Verizon is the only company that delivers service in the area, it makes perfect sense for people to choose Verizon.

I find it puzzling friends say they have Verizon because "nothing else works here" and I'm often standing next to them with my Tmobile service on an unlocked Google Nexus 5 and I'm pulling down faster LTE...now sure, that's not everywhere Verizon works- but often I see people saying how Verizon is the only game in town when it clearly isn't. If it wasn't for the HUGE company discount incentives I know 60% of the verizon customers that I know would have to switch.

97.3 million people isn't a large number? No argument that the rest of the world is GSM though.
Compared to the main One+ market...China? Over a billion people in China. Than all of Europe, the Middle East, 150 Million At&t and T-Mo customers.

Yeah Verizon is small...

Have you tried convincing your friends to switch to T-Mobile?

I've met people who have tried other carriers, but Verizon is the only one that works for them. They are not happy about the situation, but given the choice of either poor service from another carrier or Verizon, they choose Verizon.

To be clear, if another carrier expanded into their area, they would drop Verizon right away and sign up with the competition.

Hilarious... Where I live not one other company can compare. AT&T has serious problems and both T-mobile and Sprint don't even have offices here. Nothing. It's pretty much all VERIZON and I am not willing to have non stop dropped calls and garbled sound so I simply cannot go anywhere else. I just can't. So screw this f*** Verizon attitude. No, f**** lousy service.

I feel bad that you live in such a seemingly desolate place. ...but at least you have Verizon...better than nothing. :p

To all those that say the OnePlus One does not support CDMA: YOU ARE WRONG! :D Please read the specs here: oneplus dot net/one#specifications (sorry, I'm not cool enough for this forum, I'm not allowed to post links :'( )

Connectivity
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40

Now, of course, it's still possible that it won't work on Verizion's CDMA network since it's using CMDA-2000/EVDO. But I don't know how that corresponds to WCDMA band 1, 2, 4, 5, or 8, if it corresponds at all.

It won't work on any major cdma carrier. Go away

Disclaimer: The following is my personal opinion, as well as my (possibly incorrect) understanding of the situation.

First of all, I live in a semi-rural part of Tennessee near what we like to call "The Radioactive Armpit of Tennessee", where Verizon is pretty much the only choice... Not to mention my grandfathered in $30/mo "unlimited"[1] data... So no OPO for me...

Verizon's network uses CDMA on 850 for almost everything, excepting (x)LTE and some old PCS stuff on 1900 that they are phasing out. VZW's primary LTE band is 13, with 4 deployed in some high-profile areas (not here).

According to the field test on an GSM iBrick, there are no GSM networks that can be heard (I don't know what frequencies the iBrick's radio can receive)

Maybe some day there will either be a better option for a carrier in my area, or a really awesome phone like the OPO on CDMA...

I guess I'll just go back to waiting for that SunShine update, so I can unlock my Maxx that shipped with 4.4.4[2]...

[1]: If you don't mind QOS after 4GiB, no subsidy, even if you can just upgrade a no-data line and pull a SIM swap, and possibly a "Device ID Transfer".
[2]: Digitizer went out 2 months in, warranty replacement with a refurb (yech)

WCDMA != CDMA, CDMA is not even Channelized...

For those interested WCDMA is really only used by DoCoMo in Japan...

actually, you don't really want to go CDMA for verizon anyway.
and LTE is a technology based from GSM principals, more like GSM 3.0 but still not GMS.

But look:

just called about activating my OPO I received yesterday. Was having a lot of trouble with verizon's website to activate and confirm my account.
after about 1 hr of hold and bs on verizon support. I was transferred to a t2 or t3 guy.

he did some legwork and was nice about helping. Seems he was curious why the other support reps were having error activating my device.
Seems like from what verizon currently support sand what the specs are on the OPO.

Verizon supports LTE: band: 4 as one of the bands. Which OPO has capability for.

but when he searched his database of White listed IMEI's (apparently they have a website for checking IMEI for whitelist support on their service as he told me)

they have the OPO listed as, I quote "developmental and open source"
reason for being not "technically" supported.
even though it can handle LTE band 4.
He told me the frequency band, but people were loud around me and didn't catch it.

We followed to try activating through verizons page, got as far as IMEI request of new phone and then authentication code sent to my present one

then BAM. just like we already knew: Verizon had IMEI black listed for activation, not because of no support. But most likely wants to make money off Oneplus to also sell/market their product.

I'm grandfathered into the 4G and LTE unlimited data plan. So i really want to find and even wait for work arounds that will enable this working on verizon.

Or, my gf is getting a new phone for xmas since she has AT&T ;n;
I'm still looking for IMEI change options to hax my way through, i remember seeing something somewhere for this, right now im trying the APN approach.
